Winter Olympics: the First Ever Carbon Neutral Olympic Games
The Vancouver Olympics are the first Olympic games to aspire to be carbon-neutral. According to the Vancouver Organizing Committee (VANOC) the games will achieve Carbon Neutral status through the following four steps: 1. Knowing how much carbon the games emits and publicly tracking and reporting on it; 2. Reducing emissions wherever possible; 3. Offsetting direct carbon emissions that cannot be reduced or eliminated; and 4. Enabling and inspiring further action.

Christchurch Airport’s Carbon Neutral Status Has Been Renewed
Christchurch Airport was not only the first NZ airport, but the first airport in the Southern Hemisphere to achieve carbon neutral status for its operations. This status has now been renewed for the third year in a row.

Flight Demonstrates Aviation Climate Commitment
The Dutch airline KLM has today made important step towards the global aviation industry target of carbon neutral growth from 2020. In the latest in a series of sustainable biofuel flights that have taken place around the world, KLM today conducted a flight partly powered by a biofuel produced from the plant camelina. The flight took off from Amsterdam Schiphol Airport for a demonstration lasting around one hour. On board were a number of Dutch government officials and industry partners – the first time passengers have been on board a biofuels demonstration flight.
Last December an Air New Zealand Boeing 747 test flight used a 50% mix of biofuel from the plant jatropha. Following this, Continental Airlines flew one of its Boeing 737 aircraft on a 50% biofuel mix from algae and jatropha and Japan Airlines flew a Boeing 747 with a 50% blend of biofuel made from camelina, jatropha and algae.

Ford Launches Cheap Micro-Car For India

In the coming decades, India will emerge as a huge car market due to its population and rapid economic growth. Already China surpassed America in the number of cars sold last year, and both markets represent opportunities for American car companies. GM has a firm foothold in China, and Ford seems to be turning their eye towards India for expansion.
In a bid to boost their Indian market share, Ford introduced a car tailor-made for India back in September; the Figo, Italian for “cool”. That car is now officially on sale, aimed at the average Indian who wants something more upscale than a Tata Nano.
