Cash incentive for green power
The UK government have pledged to offer payments to households that that contribute electricity to the national grid. The Energy and Climate Change minister Ed Miliband stated the initiative would “Help create the clean energy of the future”.The government have a Renewable Energy Strategy and plans to cut carbon dioxide emissions but this may defer an additional costs on households, it was suggested in some quarters that the rise in energy bills could be as much as £230 but the minister believes this figure is inaccurate.
To counter rising oil costs and to reduce dependancy on external sources the government plan to off offer payments to hosueholds or communities that contribute power to the grid from 2010.
This basically means that that individual households or groups could install wind turbines or any other green energy providing machanism and offset some of the electricty back into the grid and receive some compensation back from the government. The issue for mass market appeal will be how much will the payments actually be, because even though the goal is to provide a cleaner energy future, the majority of residents will only be interested in whether or not it makes good economical sense and who can blame them.
