Touch of green win student business award

An innovative student tree planting company ‘Touch of green’ from Estonia has won a European competition for the best student company of 2009. 32 countries held individual competitions to find their best student company’s and then these were presented at the final which was held on Rotterdam, Netherlands.
The idea behind the winning project was to to provide a way to offset or neutralize your carbon footprint by the planting of trees. Once a customer has purchased a tree and the plantation service they receive a certificate stating how much CO2 has been neutralized along with the exact coordinates of the trees that were planted on your behalf.
To win the competition, the jury had to assess each company’s approach to communication, teamwork, problem-solving, objective-setting, planning and review, administration and financial systems, personnel management, product development, customer focus, marketing and sales, as well as financial results. The teams also had to do a 4 minute stage presentation outlining their business and it’s methods, which was followed by an interview. The students also had to present a company annual report prior to the event and also provide a trade stand on the event floor allowing the public and judges to visit.
Certainly a great deal of work is involved in setting up and running these company’s and the students should be incredibly proud of their achievements and the Touch of Green should be applauded for their endeavours and proving that a green business startup can work.
